This mixed media work uses encaustic wax, ink, and pigments to map the Superb Fairy Wren’s journey across nine panels. The story begins at the nest—a foundation of resources and care—before moving through the high-energy "plucky teenager" stage, where there is much spirit but little experience. We see the bird spreading its wings to venture into the wild unknown, eventually finding a partner and establishing a family of its own.

This piece acts as a mirror to our own life stages. It invites you to reflect on your journey from youthful hope to the wisdom of maturity. By celebrating each milestone, from leaving the nest to building your own, the artwork serves as a reminder that every phase of your personal evolution is a vital part of a larger, successful life story.

  • Care & Cleaning

Encaustic paintings are highly durable due to the wax's resistance to moisture, preventing deterioration. This durability is evidenced by the Fayum mummy portraits, which were created 2,000 years ago and have not faded over time.

    For optimal care:

Avoid Direct Sunlight and Extreme Temperatures: Keep your painting away from direct sunlight and temperatures below 1°C or above 50°C, as extreme heat can melt the wax.

Handle with Care: The surface can be scratched, gouged, or chipped if handled roughly. Always treat your painting gently.

Cleaning: Encaustic paintings do well in a home environment. If the painting becomes dull during curing (around 6 months), gently buff it with a soft, lint-free cloth. Occasionally wipe off dust with a clean, lint-free rag.

Following these steps will keep your encaustic artwork in excellent condition.
